| Once a great samurai film star, Ginshiro (Kazama) isn't getting any younger. Fearing a scandal about his pregnant girlfriend Konatsu (Matsuzaka), Ginshiro convinces Yasu (Hirata), a devoted fan and extra, to marry her. Then, in the hopes of reviving his career, Ginshiro takes on a new film role despite a potentially deadly stunt. Legendary director Fukusaku (favorite of Kitano and Tarantino, among others) crafts a deliciously twisted "backstage" comedy with priceless turns by Kazama and Hirata. At once a massive blockbuster and critical hit, Fall Guy is an insider satire of the studio system at the time of its ultimate transformation. |
