Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF)

The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) is one of Asia’s most reputable platforms for filmmakers, film professionals and filmgoers from all over the world to launch new works and experience outstanding films.

Screening over 280 titles from more than 50 countries in 11 major cultural venues across the territory, the Festival is Hong Kong’s largest cultural event that reaches an audience of over 600,000, including 5,000 business executives who attend the Hong Kong International Film & Television Market (FILMART), a concurrent event of the HKIFF.

Committed to discovering new talent, the Festival premieres the breadth of Chinese cinema and showcases Asian talents. As a lifestyle event, festival-goers can enjoy world-class films, attend seminars hosted by leading filmmakers from around the world, visit film exhibitions, join celebration parties, and more.

The Festival draws extensive media coverage from over 500 local and international press members and continues to grow in importance as one of the premier platforms to launch films in Asia.

The 38th HKIFF will be held in March 2014.

Asian Film Awards (AFA)

Inaugurated in 2007, the Asian Film Awards (AFA) is an international pioneering programme, honoring filmmakers with outstanding achievements in the field of Asian cinema. Eminent filmmakers and superstars from around the world are invited to bestow awards upon winners of each category, making the ceremony an elaborate extravaganza. A panel of jury, comprised of international professionals and prominent members in the community of world cinema, will select among eligible films produced in the region in that year and decide the award winners.

Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF)

The Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) is widely recognised as the most important film-financing platform in Asia. The HAF brings Asian filmmakers with upcoming projects to Hong Kong to explore co-production opportunities with top financiers, producers, bankers, distributors and buyers. Attracting more than 1,000 filmmakers and guests from at least 35 countries and regions, around 30 projects are selected annually to participate in the three-day event. Past participants include China's GU Changwei, JIA Jiangke, JIANG Wen and NING Hao; Hong Kong's Fruit CHAN, Peter CHAN, Ann HUI, Stanley KWAN, PANG Ho-cheung and Ruby YANG; Taiwan's TSAI Ming-Liang, WEI Te-Sheng and Leon DAI; Japan's IWAI Shunji, KUROSAWA Kiyoshi, KAWASE Naomi and KORE-EDA Hirokazu; South Korea's PARK Chan-wook, KIM Jee-woon, BONG Joon-ho and IM Sang-soo; as well as Thailand's Ekachai UEKRONGTHAM, Nonzee NIMIBUTR and Pen-ek RATANARUANG.

HAF alumni have gone on to enjoy both critical acclaim and box office triumph with their completed projects. Recent success stories include BENDS (Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival 2013), Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? (Panorama, Berlin Film Festival 2013; In competition, Udine Far East Film Festival 2013; Hong Kong International Film Festival 2013, Tribeca Film Festival 2013), Youth (Berlin Film Festival 2013, Hong Kong International Film Festival 2013) and the award winning Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, The Good, the Bad, the Weird and Bodyguards and Assassins.

The 12th HAF will take place from 24-26 March 2014 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, together with the 18th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART), to be held from 24-27 March 2014.

Summer International Film Festival (SIFF)

Presented by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, the Summer International Film Festival is a film event that draws a youthful audience of over 13,000 from cinephiles to filmmakers. From Asian pops to Bollywood and to restored classics, the SIFF presents more than 30 films with over 70 screenings of the trendiest titles from Asian cinema and the latest award-winning films from world-class film festivals, paying homage to the legendary masters of film-making from around the globe.

HKIFF Cine Fan Programme

Financially supported by the Hong Kong Film Development Fund and organised by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS), the HKIFF Cine Fan Programme launched in April 2013 and based at the agnès b. CINEMA at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

With the aim to enrich and deepen the experience of Hong Kong moviegoers, the monthly programme features a variety of curated contemporary, retrospective and thematic showcases, presenting national cinemas, tributes to masters, digitally restored classics, and genre films while supporting Hong Kong films and film culture. Local and overseas filmmakers and critics are invited regularly to attend meet-the-audience sessions, conduct seminars, and join panel discussions to facilitate cultural exchange across borders.

In conjunction with the programme, the HKIFFS has introduced Cine Fan, a special privilege scheme for cineastes to enjoy ticket discounts both for the programme, and also the annual Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), the Summer International Film Festival (Summer IFF), and other associated programmes.

Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA)

Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA) is a 3-year film education programme presented by The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, with the aim to foster film literacy among the youth in Hong Kong.  It is the first comprehensive film education programme presented by the HKIFFS for both Hong Kong educators and students.  The JCCA aims to bring film education, an important part of media literacy in the 21st century, from an opportunity enjoyed by a privileged few to become an integral part of youth culture in Hong Kong.

Macao International Film and Video Festival

Since 2004, The HKIFFS has co-curated the Macao International Film and Video Festival, a 10-day event held in association with the HKIFF. Providing a selection of approximately 12 films to the Macao Cultural Centre, the HKIFFS also invites the cast and directors to Macao, offering the local audience the opportunity to participate in Hong Kong’s largest annual cultural event.


Hong Kong Film Panorama


In collaboration with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office based in Brussels, the HKIFFS curates a travelling film festival of 7 Hong Kong films which tours over a dozen European cities, including Berlin and Amsterdam. As a year-long touring festival, the Hong Kong Film Panorama screens new Hong Kong film titles plus selected titles under special theme.


KINO


Co-curated by HKIFFS and presented by Goethe Institut Hong Kong, KINO is an annual event dedicated to delivering a better appreciation of German film culture and arts to the Hong Kong community.  By presenting a spectacular line up of German films of different styles, with award-winning hits and a “Director in Focus” section, KINO is now widely-regarded as an eagerly anticipated event for cinephiles who wish to acquaint themselves with the German arts.
