24 March 2010 (Hong Kong) – The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) announced the members of jury judging five competitions at the 34th HKIFF, running from 21 March to 6 April 2010. Serving as jurors are distinguished individuals from the global filmmaking and arts communities. Winners of all HKIFF competitions will be announced at the 34th HKIFF Awards Gala Ceremony, to be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on Tuesday, 30 March 2010 at 7:00 pm.
Members of the jury include Brillante Mendoza, Best Director at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for Kinatay; Hong Kong filmmaker Yonfan, nominated for Best Director at the 4th Asian Film Awards for Prince of Tears; and award-winning actor Daniel Wu, who headlined the HKIFF opening film Like a Dream.
21 finalists were selected amongst over 500 submissions from around the world for the inaugural Short Film Competition. The latter brings the total number of competitions at the HKIFF to five including: the Asian Digital Competition which encourages filmmaking on the digital platform; the Humanitarian Awards which values documentary filmmakers; the SIGNIS Award which recognizes films that express social and humanitarian concerns as well as spiritual values and the FIPRESCI Prize which promote young talent and artistic excellence in Asian filmmaking.

Screening with the Short Film Competition is Quattro Hong Kong, which presents short films from four renowned Hong Kong directors. The programme is presented by Brand Hong Kong and produced by the HKIFF Society. Four endearing odes to Hong Kong, the programme presents Clara Law’s Red Earth, Herman Yau‘s Fried Glutinous Rice, Heiward Mak Hei yan’s We Might as Well be Strangers and Fruit Chan’s The Yellow Slipper.
