Since 1978, acclaimed bi-lingual publications have always been a notable hallmark of the HKIFF. From 1978-2000, the HKIFF published 23 books on the Hong Kong Cinema Retrospective and continues to publish Special Topic Catalogues with a focus on Hong Kong cinema and tributes to notable directors in the East and West. The HKIFF Society publications are used around the world by Film Festival programmers, film institutions, universities and collected by film archives.
