An overtly political statement pointing at far-right patriotic bloc leader Marine Le Pen. Set in a northern town, Pauline, a kind, hard-working single mother is persuaded to stand as a mayoral candidate, since her genial naïveté is regarded as the ideal whitewash for the right-wing party leader’s fascist platform. Soon she finds herself a mere puppet open to brutal exploitation. As France’s presidential election nears, Belvaux’s social protest picture proves timely in sparking controversy with its political agenda.
