50 years ago, Paterson, New Jersey, became an epic poem by William Carlos Williams. Now Paterson is a bus-driver/poet in the same city, balancing the creative entropy of the woman in his life with the world of men he lives in and occasionally escapes through his own readings and writings of poetry. Jarmusch creates a working class world of heart and creativity as well as violent demands, opening us up to poetry not as erudite art but as life itself.
