A truly wondrous portrait of motherhood and bonding in contemporary Mexico. Tamara, a developmentally-challenged woman, is abandoned by her brother but adopts (kidnaps) in turn a baby she sees as being abandoned. Doña Meche, an elderly neighborhood vendor, steps in to help and defend them. With her sensitive embodiments of complex characters and sympathetic eye to their hopes and struggles with the system, Carreras produces a deeply human and universal vision of women and society.
