Djam, a young Greek woman, is sent by her stepfather to Istanbul to find a rare engine part for their broken boat. Together with a French 19-year-old whom she meets, the pair sets off on an eventful road trip back into Greece, full of sudden mood swings and wild poetic musings. Steeped in exile and loss under the “Rebetiko” musical interludes, Cannes Best Director Gatlif’s (Exiles, 29th) lusty road movie reflects on the contemporary realities that afflict Europe today, all the while cherishing the kindness and joy present in the world.
