Inspired by the semi-autobiographical writings of Max Blecher, Scarred Hearts takes an intimate look at his life through Emanuel, a young writer hospitalized for bone tuberculosis. Confined to his bed, he still manages to find respite in companionship and in passionate romance while continuing his literary ambitions. Shot in 35mm in the academy ratio, the film evokes the attitudes of the 19th-century world, and honors a sympathetic soul wrestling with the meaning of human existence.
