When her Jehovah’s Witness community is attacked by an extremist group, and a private, insidious confrontation unsettles her marriage with one of the church’s leaders, Yana’s life slowly unravels. Set in Lagodekhi, near the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan, Déa Kulumbegashvili’s gorgeously shot and mesmerisingly told debut is a journey into the interior world of a woman questioning her life decisions and the imposed roles she must play within society – until she takes steps towards emancipation on her own terms.
