A visually poetic cinéma vérité portrait of the last female bee hunter in Europe. Climbing rocky hills, extracting dripping wedges of honeycomb that mirror her vivid ochre blouse, Hatidze Muratova’s lonely albeit placid life with her blind, paralyzed mother is threatened by the arrival of a nomadic family who violates her golden “take-half-and-leave-half” rule, harvesting the honey for quick profit. Painstakingly observational yet rustically sumptuous, the film offers a quiet contemplation between man and nature.
